The Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI) was formed in 1986.

It includes a set of Colleges, Departments and Centres that extend themselves through a variety of areas of knowledge, making Covilhã and the general region in a highlight position regarding the scientific and artistic knowledge.

This follows not only in the education but also in the research made in the different departments and units of investigation,

In the academic year 2014/2015 UBI had 3384 students in the graduations degrees, 1974 in the integrated masters degrees, 1061 in the regular masters degrees and 460 students in the PhD degrees, making a total of 6879 students.

Engloba um conjunto de Faculdades, Departamentos e Centros que se estendem pelas mais variadas áreas do conhecimento, colocando a Covilhã e a região numa posição de destaque no que concerne ao conhecimento científico e artístico.

Tal decorre não só do ensino ministrado mas também da investigação efetuada nos diversos departamentos e unidades de investigação.

No ano lectivo 2014/2015, a UBI contava com 3384 alunos nas licenciaturas, 1974 em mestrados integrados, 1061 em mestrados regulares e 460 alunos de doutoramento, totalizando 6879 alunos.
